Prime Video has officially renewed the Stephen King adaptation following its successful debut, and Mike Flanagan already has bigger plans for Carrie White.
Carrie White’s story is far from over.

Carrie Season 2 has officially been confirmed by Prime Video, with the streaming service announcing the renewal on October 22, 2026, just two weeks after the horror series premiered.
Created by Mike Flanagan and based on Stephen King’s 1974 novel, Carrie debuted on October 7 with all eight episodes available to stream. The adaptation stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, a sheltered teenager whose terrifying telekinetic abilities emerge as she navigates bullying, isolation and the cruelty of modern high school life.
According to Amazon MGM Studios, the series reached No. 1 on Prime Video in more than 105 countries following its debut. Now, Flanagan and King are preparing to take the story somewhere previous adaptations never could.
Mike Flanagan Already Has Plans Beyond Season 2
For anyone who watched the first season, the renewal shouldn’t come as a complete surprise.
Flanagan made significant changes to King’s original story, introducing new characters, expanding its supernatural mythology and leaving the door open for more.
In the official renewal announcement, Flanagan explained that the creative team had always envisioned something bigger.
“From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom,” he said.
Stephen King, who serves as an executive producer, also expressed enthusiasm about continuing Carrie’s story.
Flanagan previously revealed in an interview with Collider that his ideal version of the series would run for three seasons, describing the larger story as a trilogy.
While Carrie Season 3 has not been confirmed, the second-season renewal brings that original vision one step closer to reality.
What Will Carrie Season 2 Be About?
Warning: Spoilers for the Carrie Season 1 finale below.
Unlike King’s novel and earlier film adaptations, Flanagan’s version of Carrie doesn’t end with its title character’s death.
Instead, Carrie survives the devastating events of prom night and escapes Chamberlain alongside Emaline (Thalia Dudek), a mysterious young woman who possesses supernatural abilities of her own.
The finale also introduces a secretive organization of women with psychic powers, led by Adelaide (Kate Siegel), suggesting Carrie’s abilities are part of something much larger.
That revelation creates an entirely new direction for the series.
Rather than revisiting the familiar tragedy, Season 2 could explore Carrie’s place among others like her, the true motives of Adelaide’s organization and whether Carrie can finally build a life beyond the trauma she’s endured.
There are also intriguing connections to Stephen King’s wider fictional universe, although no crossover has officially been confirmed.

When Will Carrie Season 2 Be Released?
Prime Video has not announced an official release date for Carrie Season 2.
Production dates and a complete returning cast have also not been revealed. Summer H. Howell remains central to the continuing story as Carrie White, while the first season’s ending leaves room for Thalia Dudek and Kate Siegel to return.
What is confirmed is that Flanagan and King will remain involved in the next chapter.
With the 50th anniversary of Brian De Palma’s original Carrie film approaching in November 2026, the renewal arrives at an especially fitting moment for one of horror’s most recognizable characters.
For decades, Carrie White’s story has been defined by how it ends. Flanagan has already changed that. Now he gets to show us what happens next.
All eight episodes of Carrie Season 1 are streaming on Prime Video.
