Zara x John Galliano Re{form} Collection Drops October 1: Here’s What We Know

John Galliano’s highly anticipated collaboration with Zara finally has a release date.
The legendary British designer will launch Zara x John Galliano Re{form} Vol. 1 on October 1, 2026. The collection marks the first release from his two-year creative partnership with the retailer.
For anyone wondering why this collaboration has generated so much attention, Galliano isn’t simply another designer joining forces with a high-street brand. He has spent more than four decades shaping modern fashion through elaborate storytelling, technical construction and some of the industry’s most memorable runway shows.
Galliano previously led Givenchy and spent more than a decade at Dior before joining Maison Margiela, where he served as creative director until 2024. His work combines historical references, dramatic silhouettes, intricate tailoring and a mastery of techniques such as bias cutting.
Now he’s bringing that approach to Zara.
What Is Zara x John Galliano Re{form}?
Re{form} doesn’t follow the usual designer-collaboration formula.
Instead of creating a standard capsule collection from scratch, Galliano turned to Zara’s own archive. He is taking garments from previous seasons and reworking, deconstructing and transforming them into new pieces.
The concept plays directly into Galliano’s strengths as a designer, giving him existing garments to deconstruct, reshape and reinterpret in his own way.
Zara sums up the idea with the phrase “Built from our Memory, Made for Now.”
That makes Re{form} particularly interesting. Galliano isn’t trying to recreate Dior or Maison Margiela at Zara prices. He is using Zara itself as his starting material.
Who Is John Galliano?
John Galliano has built one of fashion’s most recognizable design careers.
Born in Gibraltar and raised in Britain, he graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1984. His graduate collection, Les Incroyables, immediately attracted attention and helped launch his namesake label.
His career later took him to Givenchy before he became creative director of Dior in the 1990s. At Dior, Galliano became famous for turning the traditional fashion show into full-scale theatre. His collections mixed historical periods, characters, cultures, couture techniques and elaborate sets to create entire worlds around the clothing.
But the spectacle only tells part of the story.
Galliano also earned recognition for his technical ability. Bias cutting, draping, corsetry and precise tailoring have remained recurring elements throughout his work.
He returned to the forefront of fashion at Maison Margiela, where he spent roughly a decade experimenting with deconstruction and the idea of transforming one garment into another. His 2024 Artisanal collection became one of the most talked-about couture shows of that year.
That history makes Zara an unexpected next chapter.
Why Zara x John Galliano Matters
Designer collaborations with mass retailers are nothing new, but Re{form} feels different.
Galliano spent most of his career working within luxury fashion and haute couture. Zara operates at an entirely different scale.
Instead of watering down one of his old collections for a larger market, Re{form} gives him access to years of Zara clothing and asks him to reinterpret it.
That also makes the project surprisingly aligned with his recent work. At Maison Margiela, Galliano frequently explored deconstruction, reconstruction and the memory left behind by existing garments.
Re{form} now applies a similar creative instinct to one of the world’s biggest fashion retailers.
When Does Zara x John Galliano Come Out?
Zara x John Galliano Re{form} Vol. 1 launches October 1, 2026 at 10 CEST.
Zara originally announced the Galliano partnership earlier this year, with the first collection initially expected around September. The retailer has now confirmed October 1 for the debut of Vol. 1.
The “Vol. 1” title is also worth noting. Galliano’s partnership with Zara will run for two years and include seasonal releases, so this first drop only opens the project.
What Will Be in Zara x John Galliano Re{form}?
Zara has kept much of the first collection under wraps ahead of launch.
The archive concept tells us that Galliano will transform pieces from previous Zara seasons, but the full lineup, pricing and availability remain the biggest questions heading into October 1.
We’ll also be watching how much of Galliano’s signature design language makes it into the final collection.
Will we get dramatic tailoring? Deconstructed dresses? Bias-cut silhouettes? Something completely unexpected?
For a designer whose career has revolved around transformation, Re{form} might be one of the most fitting collaborations Zara could have chosen.
